Director - Lighting Studio Irvine

Brad Nelson Brad has been designing with light for over eight years, accumulating several awards and recognitions.

Brad found a passion for lighting while studying Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado in Boulder. With interests in architecture, design, and construction, Brad learned a variety of skills while emphasizing in lighting engineering and design.

As a Director at StudioK1, Brad provides extensive design and construction experience in restaurants, hospitality, resorts, retail, residential, commercial and masterplan projects, accumulating recognition and awards for many projects. Current projects include the Orange County Great Park masterplan in Irvine, California, touted as the next major metropolitan park of the United States; the high-rise corporate office towers of 200 Spectrum Center Drive and 400 Spectrum Center Drive in Irvine, California; the upscale high-rise residential tower Pacific Gate in San Diego, California; a large mixed-use project in Kapolei, Hawai’i; the corporate masterplan for the Pathline at Peery Park in Sunnyvale, California; and a rural horse ranch housing masterplan on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawai’i.

Brad is involved in all aspects of design from concept to reality applying both design and engineering skillsets. As an advocate for the environment and a LEED Accredited Professional, sustainability and environmental impacts are always a key focus for the design of his projects.

Prior to joining StudioK1, Brad worked for The Lighting Design Alliance in Long Beach, California. At this position, he completed many award-winning projects including Aulani - A Disney Resort and Spa in Ko’Olina, Hawaii; The Hyde Lounge at Staples Center; The Hilton Orlando in Orlando, Florida; and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas in Orlando, Florida. Other notable designs that Brad developed include; Disney’s Art of Animation Resort in Orlando, Florida; Westfield’s University Town Center Mall in La Jolla, California; Fig @ 7th mall in downtown Los Angeles; and many of the Yard House Restaurants across the country.
